The Royal International Air Tattoo is considered one of the most important air shows in the world. Since 1971, the year of the first edition to date, the event remains an important and unique point of reference for all aircraft lovers. In 2003, with 523 aircraft, the Royal International Air Tattoo proved to be the largest Air show in the world. Every year the organizers manage to give the thousands of fans present at the Faiford Air Base, home of the event since 1985, a unique and unrepeatable show. Every year a special occasion is dedicated to the event, 2014 was the year that saw the English Aerobatic Patrol celebrate its 50 years of display. Star of the event the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter. Unfortunately, a problem encountered by the aircraft in the United States has deprived the thousands of fans of the debut on European soil of the new formidable aircraft.

There are many important moments that have marked the long road of the event. To remember the presence of the SR-71 at the 1983 event, the Concorde flyover of British Airways with the Red Arrows Patrol in 1985, the presence of a Sukhoi Su-27 and a Tupolev in 1992, the presence of the King of Jordan with his Looched TriStar in 1987, the Tupolev Tu-95 “Bear” in 1983. The presence for the first time in Europe of the Northrop Grumman B-2 “Spirit” in 1997, the presence at the event to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the RAF of his Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh and in 2013 the flyover of the British Airways A380 and A400M in formation with the Red Arrows.

Many acrobatic patrols were present at the event, in addition to the Italian, the Royal Jordanian Falcons, the Red Arrows, the Patrouille de France, the Zespòt Akrobacyjny Orlik and the private acrobatic team of the Breitling Jet Team and the Breitling Wingwalkers whit four Boeing Stearman A75N1s. The various General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon belonging to the Belgian, Dutch and Turkish Aeronautics have been present for almost all the most important European events.

In their livery special color the aircraft destined by the Turkish and Dutch aerospace to the Demo Team.After the cancellation at the last moment of the Loocheed Martin F-35B Lingthing II for a motor fire and the consequent grounding of all aircraft, in flight representing the US navy the only Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet. Two British helicopters in exhibition, the Boeing Chinook HC2, and Augusta Westelend Apache AH1, scheduled but not present in flight the Augusta Westland Merlin HM2. Representing the old continent, the Aérospatiale AS332M1 Super Puma by Swiss Air Force.

By now there is a constant presence of the two Sukoi Su-22M4s belonging to the Polish Air Force, an exhibition that of the two always interesting aircraft, with passages in pairs and some touch-and-go landing (TGL).In flight the new Airbus A400M, designed by the Airbus consortium, the aircraft will soon enter the flight line at the major aeronautics of the old continent.
