A bilateral agreement between the Italian Air Force and the Royal Danish Air Force was held at the Military base in Grosseto, home of the 4th Wing. The Joint Exercise Winter Hide exercise. Employed the Eurofigther of the 4th Wing and the General Dynamics F-16A / B Block 20 belonging to the Skrydstrup air base of the 727th and 730th Fighter Squadron. Located on the Cimbrian peninsula, the Skrydstrup base is home to only two flight groups equipped with General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon in the updated Block 20 (MLU) version. With a number of just 30 aircraft the two groups monitor the airspace of their nation. Present within the base the ESK 722 Squadron equipped with AgustaWestland EH101 Mk.512 with SAR functions.The Saab MFI-17 Supporter also used as a basic training aircraft. Primary purpose of the exercise, advanced combat training with air / air, air / ground and COMAO (Combined Air Operation) missions

Regarding the COMAO missions, the Italian and Danish aircraft have been included in numerous missions involving the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Strike Eagle Americans of Leakenheath. The exercise lasting about a month allowed the Danish pilots to train in a completely new territory with favorable weather conditions.

The bad weather that characterizes Denmark often does not allow regular missions to be held, thus preventing continuous and qualitative training. With three daily missions, one at 10.45am, one at 2.15pm and one at 5.15pm, the program has allowed all crews a decidedly formative experience. Thanks to the strong link between the two countries, both Italian and Danish crews had the opportunity to fly on their respective airplanes. All this to allow a further exchange of knowledge.
