With the restoration of the first airplane a B-17G “named Shoo Shoo Baby” in 1978 the idea of creating a new museum was born. With the restoration of the second plane a C-47 ° in 1986 preparations began for the official creation of the Museum. Only in 1995 the Dover AFB Historical Center was recognized by the US Air Force and moved in February 1997 to its current location with the new name of Air Mobility Command Museum. Located within the airport perimeter of the Dover Base, it occupies about 100,000 square meters of outdoor exhibition area and more than 1300 square meters of exhibition halls.

It is the museum with the largest exhibition of transport and supply aircraft in the United States. Its wonderful collection tells the story of all those aircraft that have written important pages in the history of world aviation. In addition to collecting airplanes and historical artifacts, the museum tells the story of the nearby Dover base.
