The SIFEX 2025 (Swiss Italy Flight Exercise) exercise took place from 26 May to 13 June at the Istrana base, headquarters of the 51st Wing. The joint training saw the participation of the aircraft supplied to the Swiss Air Force, the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18D Hornets. The agreement of 24 May 2004 between the Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation and the Government of the Italian Republic allowed the carrying out of this joint activity aimed at guaranteeing the training and military education of the respective armed forces.
The redeployment of the Swiss Air Force in Italy on our territory is linked to their restricted airspace and the limitations on noise pollution on Swiss territory. In addition to the Eurofighters stationed at the Istrana base, some F-16s of the US Air Force Europe also participated in the various missions. The various missions have seen the pilots of the air force inspections engaged in low-altitude missions over the sea and missions of complex war operations. (Composite Air Operation COMAO).
