The 23rd Group took part in the recent years to the operations “Albaneo” (1997) and Allied Force (Kosovo1999-2000). In January 2003, the last F-104ASA-M leaves the Cervia airport and in June of the same year the F-16 is assigned to the Group. Since January 2004, the 23rd Group has ensured the Italian airspace surveillance for the first time with the new aircraft, becoming the first Combat Ready Group AMI Group F-16.As part of the restructuring of the Military Air Force, the 23rd Hunting Group on Sunday, May 23, 2010, was the last alarm service for national airspace surveillance on the F-16

. The operating cycle of the US aircraft, which was chosen as a transit route between the F-104 and the Eurofighter, ended after 6 years. On Friday, June 4, 2010, the last F-16s have definitively left the Romagna base at the 37th Flock of Trapani. In their place will come from Pratica di Mare the 15th Stormo helicopters, specializing in Search and Rescue (SAR: Search and Rescue).
